Photographed on Quadra Island, BC, this series documents the inaugural Wonders of Seaweed workshop—an Ocean Action Grant project by Ocean Wise. Led by UBC PhD students Emma Jourdain and Varoon Supratya, alongside seaweed enthusiast, marine educator and program facilitator, Courtney den Elzen. The two-day course brought together marine naturalists, guides, and eco-tourism professionals to explore seaweed as a powerful tool for education, stewardship, ocean conservation, and of course, to nerd out. It’s an honor to have these images shared by Ocean Wise in support of conversations around climate change and ocean health.

If you’re interested in attending the next workshop (highly advisable!), you can follow along for more information here.
